Job Description

Trove is seeking a Senior Accounting Associate to join our Family Office in Boston, MA. This individual will be a key team member and an integral part of the Relationship Team who are responsible for the day-to-day accounting and operations for multiple families and / or engagements. The Senior Accounting Associate, in addition to mentoring junior team members, will take full ownership of the bill pay & receivables cycle, and be an expert in the families' accounting and financial reporting. This person will mentor and work closely reviewing work performed by the Accounting Associates on the team. The Senior Accounting Associate will be the main point of contact with the family and advisors. They will understand the importance of responding in a timely manner to internal and external requests, demonstrating competency, judgement and trustworthiness. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ownership of bill pay process, including, but not limited to vendor management, verification, and final review of bill pay prepared by the Accounting Associate, as well as identifying problems and providing resolutions in addition to delivering family reports

  • Establish and draft standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Engagement, ensure adherence to the SOP by the team and recommend improvements as needed

  • Accounts receivable, loan and other cash inflows: identify and resolve problems and prepare receivable reports

  • Treasury management: review all account activity including but not limited to banking, credit cards, custody / brokerage accounts, alternative payment methods, retirement accounts

  • Review funding requests and cash balances

  • Identify and resolve any problems and foresee any funding issues

  • Review all reconciliations prepared by Accounting Associate and prepare cash flow reports

  • Asset tracking: review of real property, collectibles, other asset accounts and classifications

  • Prepare reconciliations of all accounts as needed and make recommendations for improving the processes including cost basis adjustments as needed

  • Investment & partnership accounting: prepare investment and performance reports, understand and prepare partnership allocations and accounting

  • Reporting & analytical review: generate and customize reporting with proficient use of software, as well as understand engagement estate, trust and tax report complexities to provide proper reporting per engagement SOP

  • Tax: ownership of supporting schedules & checklist, planning for tax deadlines and managing payment process

  • Identify and communicate tax issues and developments, including proper funding requirements

  • Work with advisors on estate projects and tasks

  • Identify any key life events which trigger insurance coverage adjustments and occasionally assist with concierge special projects

  • Manage payroll accounting and assist with new employee actions within the payroll systems

  • Attend conferences & networking events with management. Develop relationships with advisors and colleagues to build network

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting or related degree area

  • Preferred CPA and or CFP or other industry related certifications

  • 4-6 years of accounting or related experience, including client service-oriented experience

  • Expert in general ledger software, bill pay software, Microsoft Office, and CRM software

  • Proficient in specialization subject matter: Advanced Complex Reporting, Trust & Estate, Tax, Investment, Payroll, etc.

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of investment statements and how to identify, account for and reconcile different asset classes and various complex transactions

  • Understanding of book to tax differences related to investments

  • Solid understanding of how various trusts are used, as well as the ability to read and abstract trust information pertinent to legacy planning

  • Ability to understand multi-family services and the complexity of high-net-worth individuals, their needs and concerns

  • Experience working in and/or knowledge of family offices and high net worth Individuals a plus
